B. Quick by C.S. Laurel Book Review

B. Quick by C.S. Laurel is quite possibly the first book I ever bought on my kindle. I know for a fact it is the first mystery book I bought.  But that is beside the point. What starts out as a drunken drive home, leads to a dead body.

William Yeats–no not that one, this one is a professor at the local college who came out late in life with money from his father that keeps his job and ex-wife happy and secure- is the character who we get to spend good old fashion head time with as it is a first person story. Taking into account how many times I chuckled, Yeats is a comic. He also has a thing for blonds.  More specifically: the blond in his creative writing class. B. Quick is his pen name and after the introduction of Brian, the word “blond” has to pop up at least one time on every page and if it doesn’t, three times on another to make up for it.

The mystery of the story wasn’t that hard to figure out. I wasn’t Scooby Doo easy- the first person you meet other then the main character- but it was simple. If you want to read a hard boiled mystery, this isn’t the book for you. However, if you want a mystery with humor, romance and characters you like, this might just be your cup of tea.
