The Math Teacher is Dead by Robert Manners Book Review

The Math Teacher is Dead by Robert Manners tells the story of Danny Vandervere, a rich kid who’s family built the town. Unlike most stories that I like for character development, I like this one for the complete opposite. Danny doesn’t develop in any profound way. He doesn’t feel remorse for cheating on his boyfriend, or embarrassed for sleeping with over a hundred people, and the only reason why he is interested in the murder was because it was his math teacher. This story reminds me of Catcher in the Rye in the respect that I don’t feel for the character. He isn’t that interesting, yet for some reason you can’t put it down. And believe me when I say that it isn’t the mystery that keeps you interested. I figured out who did before the body was discovered. Worse part yet? I didn’t even change my mind.

I think the reason why I like this story might be due to the controversial nature of it. For example, on the first page, Danny, a sixteen year old, is getting blown by his much older male math teacher while thinking about the sex he had with his female science teacher in the back of her car during lunch on the next. If this was a print bound book, I have fifty dollars saying it would be reported on every news channel and parents would be demanding the burning of the book. I have told my friends that if I ever read a book that brook taboos and didn’t apologize about and wasn’t fantasy/sci-fy based, I would give it a five star review. I am a man of my word so.... My first five star review.

Scrap Metal by Harper Fox Book Review

Scrap Metal by Harper Fox is a first person story with a title that makes me think sci-fi instead of a gay Scottish romance, but that is what it is. It is the story of Nichol and his return home to the farm after the death of his brother and mother. Coming home is something he obviously didn’t want to do but family is important and the farm needed help. The story picks up from there as Cam is introduced as the love intrest and the reason for the climax.

My opinions on this story is that it was a good read and the author has been placed on read again list but i did have complaints. My main problem was the relationship between Nichol and his grandfather. It didn’t get resolved or transform. I understand that they are highlanders and such acknowledgement of emotions is beneath them but still. A little peace between the two would be nice as I felt unsatisfied with the way it played out. Other then that I did enjoy the story.

This story receives a three out of five.

Crossroads by Keta Diablo book review

Crossroads by Keta Diablo was an entertaining read. Cop tuned private investigator Frank McGuire is recruited by the police to help find the Black Rail; a serial killer has been rampaging for months. Alongside, the Black Rail, Emily Brennan, the wife of Franks deceased and ex partner Quinn, calls and asks for his help in searching for her son Rand who has disappeared.

I enjoyed this story as I expected to. There was however one scene in the story that had me scratching my head and thinking “WTF?” You’ll know which one I’m talking about when you read it. No, just no. The hero isn’t supposed to do that. I also kept forgetting that the story was third person instead of first.  I blame the fact that most PI stories I have read were in first person and the gritty feel of the story kept making me think that.

On a scale of one to five, I have given this book a three. Love the gritty edge and the main character. I will read the sequel.

A Post Post Midnight

I had told myself that I would spend the afternoon working on promoting Power Draws Power. I got sidetracked.-Teen Wolf and laundry is a hell of a distraction.-But here I am, just in time to do a single post and head to bed.
Tomorrow, I work. But I have stuff already written up. Jump for joy when it comes to being prepared. Postings will commence at 1700 hours. That's five for those of you who don't have their phone set to the twenty-four hour system.
